Königssee

Glide across the lake in a silent electric boat , listen to the impressive Königsee echo.
The cleanest lake in Germany ist approx. 5 cubic metres, and 8 kilometres long, at the widest part 1,2 metres and up to 190 metres deep.
The lake was formed in a valley before the Ice period, which was then deepened by the powerful ice forces. As the glacier then receded, the melting
ice gathered in the valley.
The journey there and back takes 1 1/4 hours. On the peninsula St. Bartholomä the hunting lodge of the Bavarian kings (today the historical inn St. Bartholomä) can be visited , as also the church dating from 1134. This is the ideal starting point for a visit to the "Eiskapelle" – an ice chapel, a cathedral-type ice vault, which, even in Summer doesn’t melt.
Nothing can be more bautiful ...
when the „ Königssee“ is described as the
"pearl of the Berchtesgaden National Park““
then the Obersee, a lake situated about
2 kilometres away, must be the diamond of the
National Park. For those who walk around the lake,
they will be rewarded with a view of the mighty
Watzmann group of mountains with the famous
east face, where even romantic artists could not
better describe how impressive they really are.
Distance from the hotel:approx. 27 kms.
Car park: available - payable
